Is Learning to Skydive for You?

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward. For there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”—Leonardo da Vinci

The Italian Renaissance Master knew it to be true, and now, after making your first skydive, you know it too.  On your jump you experienced a feeling of freedom like no other, and we are here to tell you it does not have to be over. The end of your first tandem skydive does not need to be the end of your skydiving experience.  Go up and taste flight and freedom again with another tandem skydive, or better yet, give learning to skydive solo a go. If you are wondering if learning to skydive is for you, give this a read and see if you are a good fit to take the next step.

Do You Have the Personality Type to Be a Good Fit for Skydiving?

Well, if you have a personality at all, you are probably a pretty good candidate! Contrary to what you may think, skydiving is not just for extroverts, daredevils, or ambitious Type A’s. Skydiving appeals to a diverse pool of personality types. It turns out that skydiving can be a good fit for anyone really: your relaxed Type B’s, your introverts, and everyone in between. As you begin to learn more about the worlds within skydiving, you will begin to see there are tons of disciplines in the sport that cater to a myriad of people. Learning to skydive is the first step toward exploring these different avenues and discovering which is just right for you.

Should You Take the Next Step Checklist

Wondering if you should take the next step? We have compiled a checklist to help determine if an individual would qualify to pursue learning to skydive.

  • When you landed from your tandem skydive, you were immediately ready to go back up.
  • After your jump, you felt like you were on cloud-nine and filled with a new type of excitement quite unlike anything you’d felt before.
  • You’d like to explore a sport defined by the notable camaraderie among its participants
  • You have the desire to learn more. The technicalities of skydiving interest you, and you would like to find out what it is all about.

If you checked a few of the boxes and are wondering, “What’s next?” Well, keep reading because it would seem AFF may be your best bet!

What is it?

AFF (Accelerated Free Fall) is a 9-jump skydiving progression. This particular method of learning to skydive is specifically designed with beginners in mind. Through this course you will develop skills and gain the knowledge necessary to become a competent certified skydiver.  At Skydive Ramblers, our program adheres to the guidelines of the Australian Parachute Federation. As you progress through this course, you will become familiar with the many elements involved in each skydive: freefall sequences, body position, safety, parachute canopy flight, and landings. Once you graduate from the program, you will be awarded with A certificate accreditation.

Still feeling a little unsure?

That is alright! Remember, though, it is okay to get out of your comfort zones. When you set your sights on something greater, you often have to get out of your comfort zone to get there. We know. We were once in your position too!

First skydiving experience and it couldn’t have been better, I had the time of my life and felt so safe throughout the whole tandem. A very welcoming space and awesome people.
