Big Ways (15-16 May)

Two days of Bigways at Ramblers with clear, blue skies, a mild Queensland autumn and challenging jumps; magic.

The first day included 15-way loads, starting with easier formations and moving into more difficult set up and transitions. On Sunday a smaller group of ~11 jumpers went on to try their hands at less familiar and more trying jumps. Given that five of the participants were Bigways novices, performances across the jumps were excellent, and many lessons were learned about stack ups, presentations on exit, stop before dock, eyes across formation, safe break offs, tracks, openings, canopy flight and landings.

From the first jump onwards we got the first 11 outside the door in two seconds or just over – a stellar performance.
Our junior jumpers in particular showed great improvement in understanding and demonstrating solid Bigways skills. A a great start to the year of Bigways at Ramblers. Next camp – 17 and 18 July.

Our thanks for the wonderful support for this event by Toogoolawah Skydivers Club, Ramblers Toogooolawah and South Queensland Parachute Council, and to Ben Nordkamp for coaching and to Steve Fitch as always for excellent camera work.

A few of Fitchy’s great pictures attached for your edification.

Regards,
Martin Klapper

(to be confirmed…)

Bill, Just a note to say thanks to you mate for your continued support it was a great trip. I would also like to bring to your leadership teams attention the exceptional support provided by Andy who did the tandem jump with a great friend of mine, Julie. To say Julie was petrified on the lead up to the big day would be a huge understatement. I had my doubts that she would actually exit on the day. I put her decision to exit firmly in the hands of Andy who excelled in calming her down, reassuring her whilst having a bit of a laugh along the way. The manner in which he guided her through what was to her a daunting task was oustanding to watch. He should be commended not only for his flight skills but also his raport and interaction with the customer. I was not surprised to find out he had a military background. Ramblers should be proud to have such fine men on their books as you and Andy, Bill.

“exceptional support”, “reassuring… whilst having a bit of a laugh” – by John D. – Julie’s Tandem
